1. Transformer oil
This is the most basic insulation material, filled with the entire transformer tank, insulation and heat dissipation plays two important roles. It has much better electrical strength, heat transfer and heat capacity than air. Almost all transformers with a voltage of 6kv and a capacity of 10kva or more are oil-immersed.
2. Insulation paper and cardboard
Insulating paper (including insulating board) is made of unbleached sulphate fibre. Cellulose (C6H10O5)n molecular structure is a chain, containing hydroxyl, oil resistance and non-melting; Macrostructural fibers are tubular and porous, so they are permeable, water-absorbent and oil-absorbent. Breakdown electric field strength, mechanical strength and heat resistance are not high, but impregnated transformer oil, electrical performance is good. The smaller the permeability, the higher the breakdown electric field intensity. It must be pointed out that small permeability does not mean poor impregnation, the two are different properties. The varieties of insulating paper and paperboard are capacitor paper, cable paper, telephone paper, winding paper, impregnated paper, insulating paper and steel paper (board and pipe). Steel paper treated with zinc chloride can not be used for high voltage oil immersed transformer; Adhesive paper board (or cylinder) contains free phenol and other impurities, and should not be used in high voltage transformers. Used for high voltage power transformer mainly cable paper, telephone paper and insulation board and barrel.
3. Oiled paper insulation
Oil and paper work well together. These are the two most common and economical insulating materials, but their combination has a very high electrical resistance, much higher than other insulating materials in general, and much higher than either material when they are separated. Paper at low temperature has no significant performance decline, but also can withstand the short time higher temperature and general short circuit under the mechanical strength requirements. Other insulating materials include varnished cloth or lacquer with insulation, glass wire or asbestos electrical porcelain.
